Our Resin Bound Services
Resin Bound Stone Surfaces for Every Outdoor Space
North West England’s climate — with its frequent rain and freeze-thaw winters — can be harsh on traditional driveways. Block paving can sink and is susceptible to weeds tarmac softens in summer and looks tired after a while. A professionally installed resin bound surface is engineered to handle these conditions.
Because resin bound gravel is fully permeable, rainwater drains directly through the surface rather than pooling — a significant benefit where SUDS (sustainable urban drainage syatem) is required.
Our UV-stable polyurethane resin resists the yellowing and brittleness that affects cheaper resins in the wet British climate. Combined with a correctly specified sub-base, your resin bound driveway or patio will remain structurally sound and visually pristine for 20 years or more.
Proper Sub-Base, Every Time
A resin bound surface is only as good as what’s beneath it. We always install to the correct sub-base specification — never cutting corners to save cost at the expense of longevity.
Our Own Directly Employed Team
Every job across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and beyond is carried out by our own trained installers. We never subcontract, so quality is consistent from the first site visit to the final handover.
Transparent, Itemised Quotes
No vague estimates, no unexpected charges on completion. Your written quote details every element of the installation so you know exactly what you’re getting and what you’re paying for.
Common Questions About Resin Bound Stone
What is resin bound stone surfacing and how does it differ from resin bonded?
Resin bound stone surfacing fully encapsulates each piece of aggregate in clear UV-stable resin before it is trowelled onto the surface. The result is a smooth, flat, fully permeable finish where stones cannot come loose. Resin bonded, by contrast, scatters dry aggregate onto a wet resin base — not permeable and the top layer can loosen over time. We only install resin bound stone systems.
Do I need planning permission for a resin bound stone driveway in the North West?
In the vast majority of cases, no. Because resin bound stone surfacing is permeable, it does not count as impermeable hard standing under permitted development rules, meaning most front garden driveways in England can be surfaced without planning permission. Exceptions apply to listed buildings and conservation areas — we check this during your survey.
How long does a resin bound stone surface last?
Properly installed on a sound sub-base with a high-quality UV-stable resin, a resin bound stone surface can last 25 years or more. The most common cause of early failure is an inadequate sub-base — which is why we never compromise on this stage.
How do I maintain a resin bound stone driveway or patio?
Resin bound stone surfaces are extremely low maintenance. An occasional jet wash once or twice a year is all that’s typically needed. Because the surface is fully bound, weeds cannot grow through — though airborne seeds can germinate on top if organic debris accumulates, so keeping it clear of leaves helps. We provide a full aftercare guide on completion.
